The White Linen Proposal
From Filthy Rags to White Linen
White Linen seeks to paint an allegorical picture of the ‘marriage’ between Jesus Christ and His Bride (the Church). Characteristically similar to the classic The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, this narrative is designed to illustrate many of the parallels between the physical world in which we live and the spiritual journey we have all embarked upon. While depicting scenes of spiritual intimacy, White Linen also offers a specific glimpse into the emptiness experienced by an unfaithful woman who later becomes the faithful bride. Although the plight and emotions experienced by the woman are described in raw detail, they are never expressed in provocative or unwholesome terms.
In no way is this narrative meant to infer or describe anything other than a spiritual union between Jesus Christ and His Bride, the Church (as seen in Revelation 19:6-9, Ephesians 5:22-33, and elsewhere in the Bible).
Therefore, any and all words, thoughts, or ideas contained within this narrative related to any form of love or intimacy are to be exclusively construed in a spiritual context rather than a physical one. Additionally, it is important to note that true intimacy – deeper by far than any intimate connection or measure of love ever experienced in physical terms or even imagined in this life – does indeed exist in this spiritual union, which is precisely why White Linen abounds with such illustrations. For although human references fall infinitely short of the indescribable spiritual intimacy awaiting the Redeemed in Heaven, they are the closest comparisons our minds can grasp as physical beings temporarily confined to this earth.
